MUZEĬNY VESNIK

In 2003, the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus founded the Muzeĭny Vesnik (‘Museum Bulletin’) collection of research papers. The same year saw the release of the 1st issue of the collection (compiled by Maryna Kazantsava and L. Myartvishchava). The collection includes materials of museum readings in 2002, the concepts of exhibitions, museum educational projects, and a chronicle of the museum life.

5 issues of the collection were published (as of 2015). Edition structure is being improved: the traditional sections (‘From the Museum History,’ ‘Museum collections’, ‘Archaeology and numismatics,’ ‘Projects, Plans, Reflections,’ ‘Museum and Visitor’) were supplemented with the milestones: ‘From the history of museums in Belarus,’ ‘Museum catalogue,’ ‘Restoration,’ ‘Museum personnel training,’ ‘International Relations’ in the 2005-2008 editions. Reference apparatus became more complete and meaningful: it contains an index of names, abbreviations, summary, and a list of colour illustrations.

Muzeĭny Vesnik is published according to the decision of the methodological council of the museum. Materials are selected by the special editorial board, consisting of the most experienced museum employees.

The authors of Muzeĭny Vesnik are not only employees of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus, but those of other museums in the country, researchers of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, university professors, and archive employees as well.

BRYLI︠O︡ŬSKI SKARB CATALOGUE

Bryli︠o︡ŭski skarb catalogue starts a new series of publications entitled ‘Treasures of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus.’ The series is supposed to deal with the most valuable and interesting Museum collections and items that are real pieces of Belarusian historical and cultural heritage.

The Bryli hoard, received by the holdings of the Museum in 2003, is one of the most distinctive Early Medieval numismatic complexes within the territory of Belarus. It consists of silver Arab coins – dirhams, neck hryvnia fragments, Frankish sword and a set of weights for weighing silver shows how wide trade relations of our ancestors were in those days already.

Rarities of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus

National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus deposits valuable monuments of national importance, which are witnesses of significant events, critical stages of the nation-building process, finding ways to self-identity the people of Belarus. The album presents rare items from the museum collection, introduces the history of the museum and the way of collection formation.

The publication presents a variety of items from the collections of archaeology, precious metals, musical instruments, Belarusian folk clothes, documents, and so on. A number of items presented in the album are inscribed in the State Register of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus.

Album has been awarded a first degree in the ‘Golden tablets’ category at the National Competition ‘Art of the Book 2012.’

KNIHI I KNIHAZBORY KUTSEINSKAHA BOHAI︠A︡ŬLENSKAHA MANASTYRA Ŭ SI︠A︡RĖDZINE XVII ST. MONOGRAPH

The monograph by Yury Lauryk, leading researcher at the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus Written and Artificial Sources Department, is dedicated to publishing and book collecting activities of the Orthodox Epiphany monastery friary in Kuciejna during the high point of its history – the middle of 17th c. The defining characteristics of Kuciejna printed and manuscript books. Defining characteristics are examined thoroughly, and the attempt is made to outline the composition of book collections kept in the monastery or its churches.

The fact that the holdings of the National Historical Museum have the biggest collection of old printed and manuscript books from Epiphany and Assumption Kucejna monasteries had contributed the research.
