Simple Things. Teapots

  • 05.03.2021

From March 5, 2021, the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus has opened the exhibition “Simple Things. Teapots" from the collection of porcelain produced by the Minsk and Dobrush porcelain factories in the 1960s – 2000s.

The main exhibit of the exhibition is the teapot as one of the most traditional and popular types of tableware that is in every home. It has become a symbol of courtesy and hospitality, bringing people together over tea. Modern normative dictionaries claim that "іmbryk", "іmbrychak" is an outdated word that means a vessel for brewing, and the word “teapot” is denoted both as a vessel for boiling water, for example, on a stove, and as a vessel, for example, porcelain for brewing tea. The exhibition reflects changes in the form and way of decorating porcelain influenced by time, fashion and styles.

For the first time, visitors to the museum are presented with samples of products approved for production by the Artistic Council of the Minsk Porcelain Factory since the 1960s. After the closure of the plant in the late 2000s. a large collection of more than 10 thousand porcelain items, collected in the factory museum, was included in the collection of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus. Today, many products exist in a single copy and are kept only in the museum collection. The exhibition presents the works of V.A. Kirilenko, V.G. Gavrilova, L. Ya. Bogdanov, V.A. Leontovich, A.V. Litvinenko, V.E. Danchuk, V. Ya. Scriabina - artists who, over time, gave a special style to Minsk porcelain.

In 1978, a porcelain factory was opened in the town of Dobrush, Gomel region, which still exists and continues to delight customers with a wide range. Visitors to the exhibition will be interested in appreciating the artistic features and quality of decorative porcelain created in the 1980s and 1990s. artists M.A. and L.M. Gatalskikh, L.N. and V.V. Kovalchuk.

This exhibition is the first in a series of exhibition projects of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus with the general name "Belarusian Porcelain". The goal of the project is to consistently and as conveniently and interestingly as possible demonstrate to visitors an extensive and varied museum collection of Belarusian porcelain.

The exhibition runs from March 5 to May 16, 2021.
