  • 15.08.2018

August 15. The National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus will open an unusual exhibition "Real and virtual Minsk", which will be presented with unique pictures of our city. The visitors will be able to see archival photographs of the capital and compare them with fragments of a virtual map created by developers of the online game "World of Tanks". The exhibition was created in preparation for the City Day and Tankman Day, which is celebrated this year on September 9.

The pictures show the central streets of Minsk – from the Belarusian State Circus to Kozlov Street, photographed over 50 years ago. Near the pictures you can see the same locations, recreated in the smallest detail by the developers of the famous "Tanks" for the map "Minsk".

Computer technologies today offer the widest opportunities for the reconstruction of various historical epochs. With their help, you can see how the whole cities looked before, examine in detail the streets, houses, monuments. The purpose of this exhibition is to show Minsk of the 1970s to as many people as possible in order to preserve its image in the memory of present and future generations.

According to Yuri Kuryavy, Operation Director of World of Tanks in the CIS, "The "World of Tanks" game is often called a virtual museum in which one can see military equipment of the middle of the 20th century. Now in our "museum" there is also a virtual Minsk, in which urban landscapes of 1950s are recreated. This exhibition presents the most interesting foreshortenings of our city in real and virtual images. This exhibition is a good gift for Minsk citizens and guests of the capital for the City Day".

The exhibition will be held at the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus until August 24, then it is planned to demonstrate the exposition in the "Galleria Minsk" shopping center. The final day of the exhibition will be on the Tankman Day on September 9 in Victory Park.
