Ritual Holidays. Easter

On April 7th, 2022, the National Museum of the Republic of Belarus opened the exhibition “Ritual Holidays. Easter".
Easter is the main Christian holiday. The date of Easter in the year is determined by the lunisolar calendar, which makes Easter a transitional holiday. It is preceded by a seven-week Great Lent, at the end of which preparations for the holiday begin. Easter celebrations have always played the role of a national and city holiday. Palm fairs opened on Palm Sunday, so that people could buy bundles of willow and Easter gifts: postcards, toys, fallalery, fabrics, paper flowers, haberdashery.
In the last days of Great Lent, people bought food for the Easter table, painted eggs, prepared buns and Easter cake. Feast of the Easter started on the night from Saturday to Sunday from the celebration of the Easter service.
Sunday started with traditional visits to relatives and friends. During the visits, people presented some gifts to each other, among which, of course, the most popular were Easter cards and eggs.
At the exhibition “Ritual Holidays. Easter" you can see a hand mill, a stove-oven, a home-made swing, an original two-wheeled cart from the beginning of the 20th century and other items, including arts and crafts, that will tell about Easter traditions.
Entrance to the exhibition with a ticket to the permanent exhibition of the museum.
The exhibition will run from April 7th to June 5th, 2022.
