The Destiny of the Museum - the Destiny of the Country. A century long Journey

Exhibition project "The Destiny of the Museum - the Destiny of the Country. A century long Journey"

The exhibition reveals one of the most difficult and alongside most interesting pages of native history, which is dedicated to the birth and development of the largest museum in the country - the National Historical Museum.
When was the museum created? Who were they - the first collectors and keepers of national values? What the way the collections passed throughout the century?
You can see various museum exhibits - artifacts from different historical eras, collected by museum staff in the 1919-1950s. There are unique finds from the first archaeological excavations in the country, items of peasant and urban life, photographs and sketches from ethnographic expeditions of the 1920s, works of art brought from palaces and estates in 1918-1919, cult items, manuscripts, books and much more. Each of the presented exhibits contains many stories: the history of its creation and existence, as well as the personal, sometimes difficult path that led it to the museum. Some museum items will be presented to visitors for the first time. But a museum is not only objects, it is also people, its employees, who sometimes devote their whole lives to the museum. The exhibition "The Destiny of the Museum is the Destiny of the Country. A century long Journey " tells about this and other interesting things.
The exhibition was created on the basis of the research made by the staff of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus. The sections of the exposition reflect the most significant stages in its history: the Regional Museum in 1919, the activities of the Belarusian State Museum in the 1920s, the museum institution in the 1930s, the destiny of the museum collections during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period, the work of the organizational group preparing Belarusian State Museum of History and Local Lore, opening of the exposition in 1967.
